Abubakar Aminu Ahmad (LLB, BL, LLM, PhD).

Abubakar Aminu Ahmad (LLB, BL, LLM, PhD). Dr. Ahmad studied in Bayero University Kano (BUK), University of Jos (Unijos) and was a Visiting Research Student at the School of Law of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).


He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2001 and practiced and taught law. Dr. Ahmad was in private legal practice briefly in Kano state with the Law Firms of A.A. Umar & Co and Ibrahim Umar & Co. before his compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2001 and after the NYSC in 2002 respectively. He served with the Department of Property and Commercial law of the Faculty of Law of Unijos from 2001-2002 for his NYSC.


He joined the Law Firm of DIKKO & MAHMOUD in 2003. His practice in the Law Firm cut across litigation/dispute resolution and transaction law with bias however in transaction law. Dr. Ahmad was the Head of Chambers of DIKKO & MAHMOUD from 2006 until 2008 when he joined BUK as a lecturer with the Department of Private and Commercial Law. He continued his relationship with the Law Firm as an Associate Partner.


He rose from Assistant Lecturer to Senior Lecturer in BUK and taught both undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Law of Torts, Labour Law, Intellectual Property Law and Corporate Governance. He also supervised a number of both undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research projects. He has served as member/chairman of various committees and has served as a member of the committee set up by the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2016 to review the Investments and Securities Act 2007 and Competition Bills.


He was a member of the Steering Committee that set up Kano State Multi-Door Court House. He has participated in various training courses and workshops offered by local and international institutions on subjects that include law, dispute resolution, capital markets and leadership as well as attended various local and international conferences in Lagos, South Africa, Malaysia, UK, Japan and Italy and presented papers at the conferences. He is published in both local and international journals.


Dr. Ahmad was appointed Honourable Member of Investments and Securities Tribunal in August 2017.
